A CAMPAIGN IDEA DISCUSSED 9 Months, 1 Week ago
I am a big believer in one man cannot think of everything. I would love to hear if anything anybody would like to add to this campaign idea that I am tweaking. I am trying to make a go of a Sliders style campaign. It is borrowed heavily from the Multiverse that Alan Moore’s Top Ten exists in as well as Warren Ellis’ Planetary, which officially exists in the Wildstorm universe.

The attraction of this is getting to tell the players you can be almost anybody or anything you want (party dynamic permitting) without worrying about time travel. Because the universes while parallel are not running from the same starting time. That way you can go to Planet that is technically in the future and a planet that is technically in the past, all a little different from our own. A small handful of the universes have developed travel between them including the self-titled Prime Universe. Here (as in Alan Moore’s Top Ten) The Roman Empire Never collapsed under there own indulgence. Instead they have ushered in a time of peace and Italian world dominance! (My own English ancestry will be appeased in a moment)

Scientists from the Prime Universe are going out and borrowing people from the Multiverse to run test on comparative development and health. The PC’s will be a batch of these test subjects. On my first run of this scenario they will be about be sent home after a week of physical test, philological tests, problem solving, and interactions with persons from other Parallels. For this last they where closely monitored and housed in the same barracks.

Something goes wrong while they are being “beamed” back. I am going to rip off Alan Moore’s Top Ten again and say a unlicensed “bridge” interfered with the PC’s transmission and throws the machinery into chaos. The PC’s are thrown to a Victorian London that is inhabited by the offspring of the slain Dracula, the unfortunate children of Edward Hyde and Sherlock Holmes supporting characters. Any fans of Alan Moore can see where that came from. The fun starts from here!

Any Encounters ideas would be cool to.

Re:A CAMPAIGN IDEA DISCUSSED 9 Months, 1 Week ago
The major NPCs are as follows
Col. James Moriarty. Contrary to popular belief THE Prof. Moriarty is not named James. In the original story of “the Final Problem” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote Professor Moriarty has a brother Colonel James Moriarty who opposed Dr Watson publish the account of his brothers death and thereby further tarnishing his brothers memory. He has come up with a plan to invade the restricted wing of the British Meuseam and steel the Time Machine (H.G. Wells) and save his brothers life. He has enlisted the aid of a gang of deformed teenagers all the illegitimate children of Edward Hyde.

Mycroft Holmes the head of the Special Branch and brother to Sherlock Holmes

Dr Watson. Who works for Mycroft Holmes in the Special Branch. He always down played his participation in Sherlock’s mysteries and is perfectly suited as Mycrofts eyes and ears in the field.

Mad Hattie, a centuries old witch that roams the streets of London from Neil Gaiman’s Sandman.

Lord Godalming, Forty year old man and founder of a secret society dedicated to the eradication of Vampires and other supernatural beasts. Originally from Dracula by Bram Stoker.

Captain Jack Harkness, Immortal agent from the Torchwood Institute based out of Cardiff Wales. Originally appeared on a Dr Who episode a few years ago.

Not being able to resist I have begun to develop a NPC that will shadow the party based off of the comic I once saw. On the cover of Far West, it shows this short brunette elf with a bowler hat with feather bedecked braids coming from beneath and a pair of Colt army revolvers. That’s all I got so far other than she’s not too bright and a bit of a bitch. She’s not mean just a bit of a cuss like Wolverine was in the early seventies. I look forward to discovering why she is.

Too Tall, first off this campaign sounds AWESOME. I am a big fan of Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman. To be honest I haven read any of Top Ten, I hear good things though, but I have read a few trades of Planetary. I also dig the Roman action, but I am Italian so I am a little prejudice. I am also grooving on the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vibe you got going on as well.

Not sure what I can add to the mix but I did have a few questions. Maybe your answers will knock something loose. What system were you thinking of using? Any characters yet? Is Col. James Moriarty the "Big Bad" or his he just the starter villain?

As a side note, have you ever read Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere? It's a great book. Also the BBC did a version of it as well. The basics are this that there are magical goings on under London. London Below if I remember right. There are some really neat characters in there like Mr. Croup & Mr. Vandemar (who would make great additions to the villain pool). Just a thought, if nothing else it will make for a good read.

As I said earlier I really like you idea be sure to keep us in the know on how it plays out.

Re:A CAMPAIGN IDEA DISCUSSED 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Sence I posted last I decided to break this off in two directions A. I want to see if I can't develop this for a Con Mod and then second I am going to develop this for a generic campain setting..... cause I don't really care to write the rules for it.

For the rules system I sticking with d20 modern (past, mdern, and future) cause A. I hate learning new rules B. I have work, wife, and a kid C. those are the books I have (see point B.).... How the hell do the Moore's do all that they do!! BUT to spice the d20 up I added advatages/disadvatages and a fate point type mechanic.

The not so good Col is the big bad for now. I am having to keep this short cause we are moving away at the end of the month so i don't have much time.

I have three players now with the promise of picking up two more before the big finish. Justin is playing a Assassin from the future with an drinking problem and he is a chronic liar. Jeff is a low wisdom but not stupid brawler from modern day England and has a way with the ladies. To round out the current three Kate chose to be a fairy godmother (Pixie scorcer imported from DnD 3.5). The first session they met Mad Hettie in White Chappel, were warned about Jack the Ripper, fought some dinsours in the London Underground, were warned to get out of town by Fu Manchu, and the Brawler hooked up with a barmaid. Decent roleplay but Kate insists on acting like a disney fairy godmother on vallium!!!

Sounds to me like you have things well in hand.

Have done plenty of D20 gaming so I can say that I think that it will work for your campaign. Not to say that others wouldn't. But I am all about using whats handy and if you are the one running something that you are familiar with will allow you to relax and focus on the game/RP and not on the rules.

Speaking of the rules I like the tweaks that you have added. The advantages/disadvantages + fate point mechanic are bits that I like as a player and as a GM. Question, do the advantages/disadvantages have more then a flavor aspect? Do they cause bonus/negatives to states, rolls, etc. Or is one of the ways players can earn the fate/style points?

Like the characters you have so far. Is time travel a or going to be a big aspect of the campaign? Love the fighting dinosaurs in the Underground. And who wouldn't?

I tried to balance it. The majority of them have a direct influence on some roll, stat, or skill or another. Or they tie the PC to an NPC. The rest are like drinking problem, blood lust, and compulsive liar OR dexterous toes, good sence of direction, and noble title .

The "Fate" points are basiclly the imediate reward for anything that made me happy. Each player starts out with a couple and earn more for good roleplay or for surprising me in a fun way. I like it cause it is more of a insatnt gratafacation reward than XP.

Some of the disavatages (like Blood Lust) you can use a fate point to use to over come it with out a will save of some sort.

Not time travel as such, just sliding to alternate dimentions that are in a diffrent point in history. That way they can't jump to last wednesday and pop the bad guy as he is eating his oatmeal and not have to face his evil plot. Time travel would be way to much work anticapating the players.

That was some "flavor text" they read in the newspaper and wanted to cheack out. Keeps them happy some I'm happy.
