That is great!!
The best I ever pulled over was the Halfling the hired to help around the camp fire would tourture any prisoners when their back was turned. They found a way to leave him behind.

We were playing a D&D campaign and the players were traveling the countryside. They stumble upon a town. The players arrive and begin vigilante policing of the malcontents.

Through their deeds, they learn of a town wide festival and are asked to attend by a couple of NPC's. A couple of players are apprehensive (due to a vast history of "it's a trap!" scenarios), but decide to honor the invitation.

As the players are milling about the crowd looking for anything suspicious, they are stunned to find a Wicker Man standing in the town square. Inside the Wicker Man is a small child they had rescued earlier in the campaign.

The players then learn the biggest bombshell, the entire town worships Nerull.

Not technically a double-cross, but the best unseen threat scenario I have pulled off.

What was the best NPC double-cross of a PC you have ever seen?

For me it was a Vampire game that I played in. One of his rivals before his embrace was stirring up shit and looking like he was a Sabbat vamp. He was all over my characters business and making my character's life horrible. Finally, my character snaps and goes after him. My PC kicks his ass only to discover that he wasn't even embraced and was a regular human being possessed by another vampire or something. Both my character and I had an "Oh shit!" moment.

It was classic.

A Slightly Late Edition of Random Question Wednesday
What is the longest you have had to drive for a weekly or bi-weeekly game

Bonus for class/archtype based games -
What is your favorite class/archtype (from any game)? What is a good/short story about one?

The farthest I've driven for a game is about 20 minutes away. I was willing to drive to another city at one point (18km from city limits to city limits) but I don't know about that now.

I used to drive 2 hours up to Bloomington from Louisville for a Star Trek (FASA) game in the '80s.

More recently we had a monthly QAGS game of "The Herrick Agency" (paranormal detectives) that rotated between Louisville, Cincy and Lexington. I would drive to Cincy, and if it was any further off catch a ride for the second leg. From Columbus that was about 3 or 3 1/2 hours.

Insane? Maybe.
