Anyone ever play Rolemaster, or some of the other older systems?

Rolemaster... eh. Tried that. It didn't work for me. I don't mind having games that are a bit rules-heavy (D&D for example), but RM/RMSS just overdid that. I mean, you can best describe the game as a collection of tables.

Rolemaster: any system that needs you to roll dice to walk down a corridor is no fun in my book.

I used to say, "I quit playing Rolemaster when my character died because of a botched roll on the Breathing Chart."
It was a joke and an exaggeration, but not by that much.
I really despise that game.

I once played a game of Chartmaster... I mean Rolemaster, where the group made up PCs (which took a couple hours). We met a troll in our first encounter (half an hour of game time) and I was killed in one hit. I then pretended to make my next PC for the rest of the night while napping on and off.
Now I did have a hoot of a time playing Rolemaster once. I made up a killer archer and another player named Steve made up a monk PC. The monk was basically unhittable but could do no damage. My archer was devastating but was easy to hit. We did some math to figure out point blank range and my PC climbed up into a tree. The GM sent a wandering monster over. It couldn't hit the monk, the archer killed it. The GM sent a couple monsters over, they couldn't hit the monk and the archer killed them. The GM sent hordes of monsters at us until the archer ran out of arrows and the tree was overrun. For some reason, I still consider that as a fun time even though I'd probably never willingly do it again.

I played Rolemaster back in the day and had the same experience as many of the above posters.
As for other dead games I have a very long list including
Torg
Unknown Armies
Underground
Castle Falkenstein
Alternity
