The Game Master Show Ep 92 (AP) Time and Temp 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
This thread discusses the Content article: The Game Master Show Ep 92 (AP) Time and Temp

Hey guys,

A few things I wanted to say.

First and foremost Patrick Stewart = not gay... I'm not really sure where you got that.

Second, in my reading of the rules I think David may have gotten the concept of the Hidden Agent wrong. The implication of the synchronicities is that the players go back in time later to change the events to help them out. With the hidden agent this does not mean that a local serendipitously does something in the players favor but rather that the players have gone back to key moments and have actually caused the local to do something. I don't think it would have worked with the director suddenly getting suspicious but it definately would have worked with doing things to cause the script writer to come to set to check his scripts. Thus accomplishing the same thing. But it's not really here nor there as it didn't come down to that.

All told it was enjoyable to listen to, though I felt frustrated for Erin in the difficulties she was having picking up the system. I have a copy of the PDF and I've had to give it a few reads to actually understand all the intricacies of the rules. Of which I still havn't mastered but I assume it will get better when I've had a chance to actually play.

Keep doing what you are doing.

Iden

Great show.

I love that Wil Wheaton has a TVI rating of 2. Presumably that's for his pursuit of paradoxical goals and his ability to travel freely in time?

Iden's right about the specifics of the Hidden Agent, and right about it not being that big of a deal. The game is flexible enough to handle a few misreadings of the rules. It's not hard for one to imagine a scene in which one of the temps going back in time to earlier that morning and planting the seeds of suspicion in the director's mind.

Also, I just wanted to note that Dig 1,000 Holes, the publisher of Time & Temp, now has its own website.

You are correct on Wil Wheaton's TVI rating. I nearly put it to 3, but since none of us had played before I thought a 2 would be more appropriate.

Thanks for the calling out (Iden) and the update (Eppy) on Hidden Agent. It seemed like a bit of a stretch the way I would have worked it in according to the rules, but I wanted to keep the game moving, since it seems like pacing in the game was important to that session to keep the players motivated.

For the people out there who liked Time and Temp being played, I highly recommend picking up a copy for yourself. I am sure glad I did.

Wow, thanks for calling me out on calling you out, Captain Call-out! But seriously, I didn't mean to seem critical. I really enjoyed the episode and that I nitpicked meant I didn't have much to say. Heck it's because of you guys that I got the game in the first place. That having been said, it was helpful to hear you guys work your ways through the rules because now I feel more confident for when I finally run my game.

For the record, people absolutely have my permission to bumble through the rules as they play it. The game is sort of designed to be discovered in play. That's why I went for the handout format for the rules. I want people to peruse them during play and go, "Holy crap, we could have been doing this all along!" There are secret combos in there meant to be discovered and then relentlessly exploited.

And to get that effect, the game has to be okay with people playing and playing and suddenly going, "Holy crap, we've been doing this wrong all along!" That too is part of the temp experience. So jump in, make mistakes, learn the hard way, it won't hurt anyone.

I mean aside from the whole all of reality at stake thing.

This game looks fantastic.

I purchased it as soon as I heard your interview episode.

TGMS has certainly increased the depth and breadth of my gaming collection. I have purchased Spirit of the Century, Don't Rest Your Head, Ninjaburger, and now Time and Temp. I have plans to buy Hellas, Dread, and possibly Hollow Earth Expedition.

I really appreciate the interviews you guys do. It brings me to a lot of new and innovative games.
